We are proud to present this vintage Rolex Datejust 1601 in yellow gold and steel with a champagne baton dial. It is powered by an automatic movement and it has a 88XXXX serial number dating this watch to 1962. It has just been professionally refurbished and serviced by our watchmaker and is ready for its new owner to enjoy.
There are two things that make this watch very rare – firstly it is an early two-tone Rolex Datejust having being made in 1962; and secondly it is probably the most original example you will find for sale. It has the original “SWISS” pie pan dial with all lume dots still in tact. It has its original “sword” hands and the 1560 Rolex movement. It also comes fitted with the original two-tone folded bracelet with the large coronet on the clasp. Furthermore, the date stamps on the inside case back and clasp are present, dating this watch to the fourth quarter of 1962 (which tie in with the serial number age).
The condition is also an important factor with a watch of this age and this example is superb. The champagne dial looks beautiful, whilst the case and bezel have only light wear. The Jubilee bracelet inevitably has some stretch, but it is still in fantastic condition for its age. The bracelet is a good length and the Rolex coronet on the clasp is still well defined too. This is a watch that we were delighted to secure for stock, and we are confident it will make its new keeper very happy.
Our watches are thoroughly tested prior to being listed here. We price check our watches against our competitors to ensure they represent the best value taking into account the paperwork, accessories and condition.
