The Omega Speedmaster is one of Omega’s most iconic lines with a rich history going back to 1957. Originally introduced as a sports and racing chronograph, it formed part of the professional 1957 trilogy along with the Seamaster 300 and Railmaster.
The Speedmaster is most famous for being the “The first watch worn on the moon”, and Omega have made several versions of this iconic watch. For many the most desirable Speedmasters are the ones that closely resemble the early models. Naturally the early examples will always command a premium due to their rarity and appeal to collectors. Over the years Omega have also made several variants that have proven to be not only great watches, but good investments too. We could pick a number of classic Speedmaster models that would take pride of place in most collections and we were fortunate enough to acquire the three watches pictured below. Purchased from an enthusiast, each one has its own bit of history and story to tell. From left to right:
2007 Speedmaster Professional “From Moon to Mars” – Created to commemorate NASA’s decision to designate Mars as a target for exploration.
2007 Speedmaster Professional “50th Anniversary Patch” – Created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Speedmaster line.
1998 Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch – Nearing vintage status and has the desirable 1498/840 bracelet and clasp, setting it apart from later models.
All three watches come presented with box and papers.
